Western Wedding Ideas
When choosing to have a western themed wedding, you need to start by deciding how far you are going to go with the whole theme. Do you just want to add some western cake toppers to the centerpieces and call it done or do you want to go all out with bales of hay, cowboy boots, and real live horses? Whether you choose a few subtle western accents or turn the whole wedding into an authentic Old West ghost town, you do need to start with a few basic decisions before moving forward with the planning.
Probably the most important decision you need to make first is the color scheme. Western style generally has two distinct and very different color schemes to choose from, so make sure you know what direction you are going in so you can create a cohesive and beautiful western wedding theme.
For a subtle and elegant western style wedding, you might want to go with natural browns, rustic tans, antique whites, and muted pinks. This color scheme can be very romantic and sophisticated, while also incorporating more obvious western themes, such as lace, leather, rope, and suede. Vintage wedding gowns, traditional bridesmaid dresses, bolo ties, and formal western wear will give your wedding party a romantic, yet authentic western look. Create mini wedding cakes for each table of brown and pink topped with western style cake toppers. You can also use stylish western place cards for the tables with cowboy hats, cowboy boots, or rope accents on them for a nice finishing touch.
On the other end of the western wedding spectrum, you can go all out with a rough and tumble Old West feel. This color scheme would include blue jean blues, bandana reds, and handkerchief whites. Rather than a wedding dress you might want to put on an authentic saloon girl dress or just a simple blue jean style dress and cowboy boots. The men can wear blue jeans, western shirts, and cowboy hats or go all out with cowboy chaps and spurs. Decorate the reception with bales of hay instead of serving tables, red and white checkerboard table cloths, metal pails for punch, or blue and white camping style cups and dishes.
