Martha's Vineyard Eateries

When visiting Martha's Vineyard, make sure to try out these top-rated restaurants and learn to eat like a local.

20byNine is an American pub style restaurant located at 16 Kennebec Avenue in Oak Bluffs. With a sophisticated, yet casual setting, meals are served as small dishes or family style and meant to be shared by everyone at the table. The restaurant’s owner is a certified cicerone (beer expert) and runs the only continuously rotating craft beer program on Martha’s Vineyard.

Red Cat Kitchen at Ken N’ Beck is located at 14 Kennebec Avenue in Oak Bluffs. For the foodie, this restaurant has something for everyone in a relaxed, artistic atmosphere. While not the usual island fare, the chef’s revolving menu offers new gastronomic creations that are made with soulful style. The fried chicken and crispy Brussel sprouts are two favorite choices of locals and tourists alike, so those always seem to make the newest menu.

Back Door Donuts is located at 5 Post Office Square in Oak Bluffs, but this is not your usual donut shop. By day, the building operates as Martha’s Vineyard Gourmet Café and Bakery, but by night, hot donuts are served through the back door. The line regularly wraps around the corner well past midnight with people waiting for a hot apple fritter, Boston Cream donut, or the famous Charlie. This signature dessert tops a hot donut with ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce drizzled on top.

Slice of Life is located at 50 Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs and is the place to go for an inexpensive breakfast or simple lunch. This deli, market, and café is open all year for lunch and dinner, but breakfast is served seasonally. Known for their fried green tomato B.L.T., fresh tuna salad deli sandwich, and thin crust pizzas, it is the perfect spot to take a break from shopping or to grab-and-go for a day at the beach.

For the freshest seafood on the island, a drive to Larsen’s Fish Market is a must. Located at 56 Basin Road in the fishing village of Menemsha, this southwest island hotspot is worth the drive. Not so much a restaurant as it is an experience, this fish shack has no seating, except what can be found on the dock. Fresh lobster is served right off a boat from the dock, along with mussels, and cherrystone clams. Call in an order several hours in advance and grab a spot on the dock before sunset to watch the boats come in and the sun go down.
