Visiting Israel: Best Beaches
Israel is a coastal country surrounded by both large and small waters, the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Dead Sea, and the Sea of Galilee. With all of these amazing waters to choose from, you are never far from sun, fun, and sand when visiting Israel.
However, you do need to be extremely careful when swimming in the Mediterranean Sea due to its unusually strong riptides and undertows. Care should also be taken in the Red Sea because of its dangerously sharp coral, poisonous sea urchins, and stinging jellyfish, so stay alert.
North of Caesarea you will find Aqueduct Beach, a quiet and calm beach that gives you a perfect view of both the Mediterranean Sea and the Roman ruins that surround it. Named for the ancient Roman aqueduct nearby it is the perfect beach if you are looking for a relaxing day on the sand without crowds or the usual amenities, such as showers or restrooms.
Gordon Beach in Tel Aviv is considered the most accessible urban beach in the world. This public beach is clean, tourist friendly, and close to most of the luxury hotels, local restaurants, and provides free showers.
On the Red Sea in Eilat you will want to visit Dolphin Reef Beach. Named for its large free-swimming dolphin population, this beach is the perfect place to swim and watch these beautiful animals frolic in the open sea. The swimming area is fenced off to protect the wild dolphins, but you can pay to swim with them on a tour. The bustling beach is dotted with palm trees, thatched umbrellas, and open-air cafes where you can also get a bite to eat.
Swimming in the Dead Sea is a must-do event if you have the chance. At Ein Gedi Beach you can take a dip in the sea which is located at the lowest point on earth and filled with salt which makes you float effortlessly on the top.
