Wedding Day Accessories

Wedding gloves and jewelry

You've got the wedding dress, the veil, and the shoes, but your wedding day outfit is still not complete without a few extra embellishments and accessories. From bridal purses to stockings, you’ll need to do a little more shopping before your wedding day to finish off your perfect bridal outfit.

Bridal purses are a must-have accessory for any bride, bridesmaid, or mother of the bride. Obviously, it’s not appropriate to carry your suitcase sized satchel down the aisle with you, so you’ll need to find some pretty and practical bridal purses for you and your attendants. Satin clutches are always a good bridal purse choice. They are small, easy to carry, and usually have an easy to open clasp at the top, which is helpful if you’re wearing satin gloves. You can choose purses in varying colors to match your bridesmaids’ dresses and choose a white one for yourself. They also make great bridesmaid gifts. An evening style bag would be a good choice for the mother of the bride because they are sophisticated and elegant looking.

Other bridal purses you might want to consider are the drawstring bag type. These bridal purses are easy to open, can be carried by the looped drawstring, and go beautifully with your dress. These bags can also be used as money bags for the bride’s dance. A tradition that still exists in some modern weddings today, the bride collects money at the wedding reception in exchange for a spin on the dance floor. It’s also a great way to get people out on the dance floor.

Make sure you don’t forget to put on your wedding day jewelry before the ceremony. Oftentimes brides run out of the house in a hurry and once they get to the church they realize that they didn’t bring their jewelry. The best way to remember these essential items is to put them inside your bridal purse the night before so that you don’t leave without them. Remember, jewelry on your wedding day should not distract from the dress or your beautiful face as you’re walking down the aisle. So, make sure to choose simple, classic pieces, such as pearl earring and a pearl necklace, diamond studs and a floating diamond necklace, or some of your family’s precious antiques. Wearing meaningful jewelry on your wedding day is the best choice and will make your completed look all the more special.

Your something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue items shouldn't be forgotten either. Your something old is usually one of the pieces of jewelry that your mother or grandmother may have given you. Your something new is often covered by the new dress or new shoes that you wear. Your something borrowed can include just about anything, but it’s important that you borrow it from a happily married woman for the full dose of luck to apply. And your something blue is most commonly worn on the leg in the form of a blue bridal garter. Bridal garters will usually come in sets of two because you actually wear both of them to the wedding. At the wedding reception during the bridal garter ceremony, your new husband will remove one of the garters, usually the smaller one, and throw it out for the single men to catch. The larger or more ornately decorated garter will remain on the leg until your husband removes it in private.

Other bridal accessories that you might consider adding to your bridal ensemble could include long satin gloves, beautifully embroidered handkerchiefs, a pair and a spare of white stockings, a sparkling tiara, little flowers for your hair, lipstick, perfume, and even sunglasses for when you are walking to and from the church, limo, and wedding reception. You know the old saying, it’s better to be over prepared than under prepared, so gather all of these little things together a day or two beforehand so you don’t have to run around in a mad dash trying to find that missing earring. Place the smaller items inside the bridal purses and you’ll be ready to enjoy your special day without worry.
